Goodbye Francis Magalona. THANKS FOR THE MUSIC.

Known as “Master Rapper,” Francis M. is considered as one of the most influencial icons in the industry of rap/hiphop music. Francis was diagnosed with leukemia August of 2008 and was supposed to have a bone-marrow transplant this year.

He passed away at the Medical City in Mandaluyong around noon today, Friday 6th of March 2009. Condolences to the family and friends of Francis Magalona.

RIP Francis M.

Here’s the article from GMANews.TV

Vic Sotto confirmed the news over GMA’s noontime show Eat Bulaga and asked for a minute of prayer for the eternal repose of the singer-composer’s soul.
Magalona’s battle with leukemia was made public last year. In a public statement last April 14, he admitted he was battling with the malady.
A blood drive was subsequently announced for the singer.
Unknown to the most, the 44-year-old singer-composer recently survived a delicate medical condition days before he was dispatched from a hospital.
“Akala ko kasi magki-Christmas ako sa ospital, e, because I had a very, very, very close brush with death last December 4. I went into septic shock and it was a very scary moment,” he said in an earlier interview.
It was announced last year that Magalona was scheduled for a bone marrow transplant.
“My doctor said I’m in remission right now after my third chemo cycle. So, my next move would be to do the bone marrow transplant and I’m very happy to announce that I was able to find a match. One of my sisters from the States we have the same tissue typing so she would be my donor,” he added. – Amita O. Legaspi and Mark Joseph Ubalde, GMANews.TV

Dalai Lama

From Wiki: The Dalai Lama is the spiritual and political leader of the Tibetan people according to Tibetan Buddhism. Often referred to simply as “His Holiness” (HH), or “His Holiness The Dalai Lama”, Tibetans usually call the Dalai Lama by the epithets Gyalwa Rinpoche, meaning “Precious Victor”, or Yishin Norbu, meaning “Wish-fulfilling Jewel.” “Lama” (meaning “teacher”) is a title given to many different ranks of Tibetan Buddhist clergy.

The Dalai Lama is believed to be the current incarnation of a long line of Tulkus, or Buddhist Masters, who have become exempt from the wheel of death and rebirth. These ascended masters have chosen of their own free will to be reborn to this plane in order to teach humanity.

The influential, exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama is currently admitted in a private Indian Hospital. The 73-year-old leader was taken to hospital in Mumbai on Thursday after complaining of “abdominal discomfort,” according to his aides.

Ces Drilon Missing

Cameramen Jimmy Encarnacion, Angelo Valderama, professor Octavio Dinampo and world class journalist Cecilia Victioria Drilon or Ces Drilon have been reported missing in Jolo, Sulu. The news striked the public early Tuesday.

I was surprised when I heard about it because I watched the national news programs this morning and at lunch time (Balitanghali at Qtv) and it was never mentioned. The family didn’t want to reveal the situation to the public since things might get out of control with the media coming into play.

Official statement from ABS-CBN:

“All efforts are underway to find them and bring them home. Until we learn more details, ABS-CBN News requests other media to report on this matter with utmost consideration for the safety of our news team.”

Let us hope and pray for the safety of the team. Ces is one of my favorite broadcast journalists. She is one of the best in her craft. While writing this entry, I could recall her appearance in the standoff at Peninsula Manila Hotel in Makati City, November last year. She bravely delivered live updates of the situation.
